There are things that we say that come back to hunt us. It’s kind of the karma for doing wrong things. The basics of communication is not what we say, but what others understand we say. So imagine what will go through your mind when you read “Nephew-Nazi” in an official statement out of the White House.
For months (years already we can say) we have heard how unfit Donald Trump is for the office of President of the United States of America. We are not going to commit the immoral act of judging another person’s feelings, but boy, waiting two days to condemn the violent acts perpetrated by white supremacist protesters in Virginia and name KKK, neo-Nazis, white supremacists, and other groups as “criminal” and “thugs,” is something that this President will be criticized for as long as he is president and beyond.
Tonight in the Late Night with Seth Meyers show, we probably noticed for the first time – amidst all the noise of these past three days – that in a statement sent early Sunday morning it read this:
“The president said very strongly in his statement yesterday that he condemns all forms of violence, bigotry and hatred and of course that includes white supremacists, KKK, nephew-nazi and all extremist groups. He called for national unity and bringing all Americans together …”
As most of our reflection moments come best with a good laugh at our day during the late night shows, we take it with a joke that “apparently even auto correct can’t believe we’re still talking about neo-nazi in 2017.”
Sad reality that in 2017, not only we witnessed what happened in #Charlottesville, the most embarrassing, and perhaps the most disgraceful day of our nation in modern times; but an attempt to clarify the questioned position of our president had unsupervised typos.
The nephew-nazi typo is also the mistake that made President Trump having to appear for a second time to justify which one of the “many sides” he is on. This —and other statements to come— will ring hollow to the American people as long as Trump’s aides with ties to white supremacist groups who pursue racist policies continue in the White House, and advising the president.
Get a good laugh but reflect on what Charlottesville mayor said on Trump in regards to the latest violent incidents caused by white supremacist protests: ‘Look at the campaign he ran’.
Get a good laugh but reflect there’s gotta be a way to avoid this to happen in the near future (days, weeks, or months from today) which is exactly contrary to what Mitch McConnell said during an interview at Meet the Press with Chuck Todd.
