With voting registration nearing its final date—October 5, 2020—Palm Beach County Democrats rallied on Sunday by the Box Gallery on Belvedere Rd, West Palm Beach, to raise awareness for locals to register, and help provide information to voters, especially those in the Hispanic and Black communities that suffer the consequence es of racially biased election laws.

Voter suppression almost certainly helped Donald Trump win the presidency, with evidence of deep structural barriers to the ballot for black and Latino voters.

At a time when there have been growing concerns among rank-and-file Democrats as the Biden campaign has focused on winning back Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin for Democrats, the voting registration drive on Sunday, sponsored by the Palm Beach County Democratic Hispanic Chapter, showed that the Hispanic vote is important to take the Biden and Harris ticket to the White House. Without Florida, Trump’s path to a second term becomes exceedingly narrow.

“Hispanics are so intersectional,” says Rolando Chang Barrero, Delegate for the Biden Campaign in the county. “And with this ability, we have invited everyone from the gay community and from the black community that is Hispanic, along with representatives of those organizations, to join us for a fun rally all day to bring attention to voter registration. We’re making registration available, reminding people that October 5th is the last day to register, and encouraging everyone to remember they can still request their mail-in ballot and have it delivered to the Supervisor of Election office over on Gun Club Rd.”

Locals and activists from all over Palm Beach County gathered together around 10 am on Sunday on the sidewalks between The Box Gallery and the longtime popular LGBT friendly bar, H.G. Rooster’s, chanting, and waving signs as drivers honked by.
