While national Democrats have eschewed knocking on doors because of the pandemic, that didn’t stop a number of Palm Beach County residents to show their activism during rush hour, Thursday, at the busy intersection of Atlantic Ave and NW 10th St.
At an event called Democracy over Racism, grassroots activists gathered to show visibility and unity to increase Hispanic and Black vote in Palm Beach County.
“Customarily low key communities that work hard behind the scene are headed for the streets this month to lead Palm Beach County efforts to get out and vote,” says activist and delegate for Joe Biden, Rolando Chang Barrero from West Palm Beach. “This event kicked off grassroots efforts to bring the message to minority communities in Palm Beach County.”
Chang Barrero is a vocal local leader, an activist whose uncompromising style has made him a persistent organizer among Palm Beach County Democrats.

A victory for Biden in Florida, the largest of the perennial battleground states, would significantly complicate Trump’s path to reaching the 270 Electoral College votes needed to secure a second term. That makes Black and Latino votes important in this key in battleground state.
“More than any other time, the Hispanic community, Latino community holds in the palm of their hand the destiny of this country,” Biden said during a Hispanic Heritage Month kickoff event in Kissimmee. “You can decide the direction of this country.”
Republicans have invested millions in Florida focused on Latino outreach and boosting their field operation, and the state’s size and diversity make campaigns there expensive.
